The Benefits of Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is making a comeback in the health industry in many ways.  Although it’s gotten a lot of bad rap because of one study which found the hydrogenated form bad for your health, in terms of heart disease and cholesterol, we know now that it’s the hydrogenation that was to blame, not the coconut oil itself.

In fact, pure coconut oil is a very digestible saturated fat, which contains both short- and medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs), the fatty acids which are more easily digested by the body than long-chain fatty acids. This oil is often preferred by athletes and body builders and by those who are dieting. The reason behind this being that coconut oil contains lesser calories than other oils, its fat content is easily converted into energy and it does not lead to accumulation of fat in the heart and arteries. And there are health benefits: coconut oil may even aid in lowering cholesterol, maintaining blood sugar levels, and restoring thyroid function. When you consume coconut oil, the body converts the lauric acid into monolaurin which is claimed to help in dealing with viruses and bacteria causing diseases such as herpes, influenza, cytomegalovirus, and even HIV. It helps fight harmful bacteria such as listeria monocytogenes and heliobacter pylori, and harmful protozoa such as giardia lamblia.

As a result of these various health benefits of coconut oil, though its exact mechanism of action was unknown, it has been extensively used in Ayurveda, the traditional Indian medicinal system.  Coconut oil is also great for your skin, but why is even more interesting.  The sebaceous glands of human skin produce MCFAs like the ones in coconut oil, which destroy certain bacteria, fungi and viruses. While soaps wash away this sebaceous oil, coconut oil can act as a restorative, not only protecting the skin but moisturizing it as well and helping prevent scars and stretch marks.  The high level of MCFAs in coconut oil makes it the most stable of oils but despite its longer shelf life than other oils, it should be stored away from sunlight and heat. Since other oils and fats can more easily become rancid, they can have a negative effect on the skin’s connective tissues.  Try using coconut oil to moisturize your skin for great effects on the connective tissues.

I have seen it at GNC stores, and a good health food store will have it, and some Shoppers Drug Marts too, it all depends on the city you live in and what part of the country your in.

A Fun Coconut Oil Weight Loss Program

Spending my summers in the tropics, I was pleasantly amazed on how people there were very fit. Though I would think it was also the humid weather that kept everyone drippy with sweat and perspiration, it was also in their dietary habits, as I have come to know now, especially with coconut products. To them it was the coconut oil weight loss system, well native and natural.

To get the coconut oil, the process involved the following steps: First, a climber would have to go up a tree and get some coconuts. This is no simple feat as the variety of the coconut tree predominantly found here is the ” tall African” which could grow as high as 80 feet or so. As the coconuts were dropped, there were people who would shred the shell using a make shift shredder that looked like part a shoe shine boot placer, with a round cylindrical spur that was meant to tear off the shell. The shell could be used to start fires. The remaining nut was then open and as kids, we would ask for the coconut water, which is another source of nutrients and a great energy booster. The flesh then was left to boil and from this came the coconut oil.

This oil, which had many purposes, could be taken naturally or could be used as additives or condiments for different dishes. These days, to be part of a coconut oil weight loss program, one can opt to just take a gel like capsule which contains the necessary ingredients needed to lose weight. But we were thrilled to see how such coconut oil were used to make great desserts and main dishes like beef or chicken curry with lemon grass leaves, or rice cake “cochinta” as they call it with shredded coconut was a great dessert to eat anytime of the day. Despite all those delicious dishes, we found out that the coconut oil did help us balance things out. It served like a laxative for most part, but it also lined our stomachs with its own oil to serve as a protection for bad bacteria.

These days one can go on their own coconut oil weight loss program with the availability of such pills and supplements. That gel like pill, or liquid can do the things that those coconut gatherers, shredders and cooks do back here in the place where I spent my summers in. But if by chance, you do get to visit some tropical island, do take the time out and try and see how the coconut oil is made, and sample a dish based on that. That experience may be a very special and unique coconut oil weight loss program.

I was wondering cause I been using wild growth oil, but have been hearing things about coconut oil, and seeing if you can mix them?

I’m sure you can because it’s only oil. Genetics is the biggest indicator of how fast it grows, how long it will get, etc.

A scientific basis for claims and only coconut oil has also been discovered, as apparently, this oil is composed of medium chain triglycerides, rather than long chains like most oils. Which means it can be metabolized differently, plus it is used more readily than other oils as a power source.

The countries that these tropical oils originated in, mainly the Philippines as well as Malaysia were too poor to counter these untrue claims with advertising investments for that truth. It is only recently how the rewards these tropical oils are beginning become rediscovered.
